Global & Reproductive Health

SDG5 multilingual census analysis and reproductive health outcomes in low- and middle-income settings

Global health research addresses health disparities across populations, with particular attention to structural determinants and equity. My contribution in this area has focused on gender equality measurement and reproductive health outcomes.

UNFPA SDG5 Census Work

In collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), this work contributed to data collection and analysis for Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) indicators using national census datasets.

Key activities:

  • Multilingual data collection protocols (Arabic, French, English)
  • Harmonization of indicators across administrative units
  • Descriptive epidemiology of gender-equity metrics at the subnational level

Pulmonary Outcomes Following COVID-19

A separate research thread, presented at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress 2024 (Vienna), examined CT-documented pulmonary abnormalities in patients recovering from COVID-19 — a post-infectious outcome with implications for long-term respiratory surveillance in resource-constrained settings.

Methods & Perspective

This work applies a population health lens: standardization for population age structures, ecological study design, and awareness of the limits of aggregate data for causal inference. The clinical experience of practicing medicine in Tunisia has reinforced a focus on research questions that are relevant in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) contexts as well as high-income settings.
